This one is from November 5th. On this day, it was warm – 60s – and sunny, and not very windy. The forecast called for temperatures to drop to the 30s within the week (and they did!) so I wanted to get out and do one more plein air session in comfortable temperatures.

Though the end of fall and beginning of winter are often associated with death, decay, and drab colors, there really is still a lot of color out there if you are on the lookout for it. The grasses at Hadley Valley are quite colorful right now with lots of rusts, ochres, dull greens, and russets. The distant trees are purple and pumpkin. And – on this day at least – the sky was big and beautiful blue. As winter marches into the Chicago area, we will have many more grey skies than blue!
