Hadley Valley is lush and green now that “summer” is in full swing here in Chicagoland. We’ve had unseasonably warm temperatures ever since so-called-spring ended early last month. I painted The Gateway in the midst of all this lushness last weekend. The traffic on the trail was steady, and many folks stopped to look or comment. The wind was gentle (unlike another experience painting in the valley) and the sun was warm. A glorious day to be alive – and painting!
These two trees guard the trail right near the trail head. I thought of them as a gateway to the trail, and June 1st (the day I painted) as the gateway warm weather, long days and late sunsets, the ending of school – all the goodness of summer!
