View from Belmont Harbor

Here is a skyline that is so classic and recognizable. That’s one thing where I think Chicago has other cities beat…our skyline is just so aesthetically appealing. Ok, ok, maybe I’m biased, since its home. What do you think? What city has a skyline that speaks to you?

This view of the skyline is from Belmont Harbor. My lovely sister took the photo and I just loved the shapes made by the land and water, as well as the hazy view of the distant buildings. I started with an underpainting using only red and blue, but a warm and cool version of each to note lights and shadows. Once that dried, I built the colors on top of that, leaving some areas of the underpainting to show. This is done on a 12×12 gallery wrapped canvas.
