Crossing the Yamuna, Agra

Today, I finally got to do some painting again. It has been a while, I realized!  My inspiration came from another travel photograph taken by my Dad. (Thanks, Dad!) I was struck by the simplicity of the scene, the asymmetry, and the reflection.

This was a quicker painting…wet into wet…it has a looser feel than other paintings I’ve done. I like that. I did a blue-grey ground to start, and when I began the shore with the ochers and browns, I wasn’t so sure how I felt about all that mixing and mingling…turns out I like it quite a bit! So far the feedback from this particular painting has been strong – it seems to resonate with people. That pleases me!
